The first President of the Nigerian chapter of the Global Legislators Organization for a Balanced Environment(GLOBE) and Leader of Nigeria's 8th National Assembly, Senator Bukola Saraki has lauded the launch of the GLOBE-UNEP-GEF project; "GLOBE Legislators Advancing REDD+ and Natural Capital Governance towards the Delivery of the 2030 Agenda" as proof of the growth of the body since its inception on February 12, 2013. Senator Saraki made this known in a letter he sent to the Vice President(Africa) GLOBE International, and President of GLOBE Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Samuel Onuigbo.
According to Saraki; "This launch...demonstrates how the initiative has grown over the years in Nigeria and the determination of our legislature to key into global trend of responding to the urgent environmental and sustainable development challenges through the development and advancement of complementary legislation."
The former Senate President thanked the Global Environment Facility(GEF) and the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) for initiating the project which he said will "enhance the capacity of [Nigerian] legislators to deliver on the national commitment to a balanced environment and sustainable growth", and wished GLOBE Nigeria success in the delivering of the project's objectives.
