The Speaker of the House of Representatives in Nigeria, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila has officially joined the Nigerian chapter of the Global Legislators Organization for a Balanced Environment(GLOBE).
This was revealed by the Speaker, during the reconvening of GLOBE members in Nigeria’s 9th National Assembly, in Abuja Nigeria, and the launch of the GLOBE-UNEP-GEF project “GLOBE Legislators Advancing REDD+ and Natural Capital Governance Towards the Delivery of the 2030 Agenda, on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, at the National Assembly Complex.
The focus of this project is supporting national legislators as they work for the implementation of the Great Green Wall Initiative, the adoption of a national legislative framework for the implementation of REDD+, and the integration of environmental economic accounting as a tool for decision-making for the delivery of the nature-dependent SDGs.
The Speaker who said; “The work being done by the Global Legislators Organization for a Balanced Environment (GLOBE) is of paramount importance in safeguarding our future and is deserving of the support and encouragement of all Nigerians and friends of Nigeria. I am pleased to be a part of the GLOBE project, and to support in every way that I can, the achievement of the objectives we all share,” stated that the Government of Nigeria is committed to making coordinated and sustained “efforts to develop policy, pass legislation and implement plans and projects expressly intended to protect our environment and achieve sustainable economic growth and national development.”
He urged all National Parliamentarians to support and be part of GLOBE, while declaring his own total support of the aims and goals of the organization.
